If your Shopify store is on a paid ad channel and your first-purchase margin is thin, an upsell app is one of the few installs that changes the P&L without changing your ad account. The reason is arithmetic: a 15% lift on an order you already won is cheaper than a 15% cut in your CAC. All four apps below get you that lift in some form. The differences are in the placement they own, the real monthly cost at your volume, and how much of the funnel a solo owner can build without a developer.
Who this is for
This guide is written for the owner of a Shopify store doing roughly 50 to 500 orders a month. If you’re doing fewer than 50 orders a month, install the free tier of one of these apps (Upsell.com’s live-store plan starts at $4.99, and Honeycomb runs at $0 up to 100 funnel views) and prove the mechanic before you optimize anything. If you’re past 500 orders a month, the calculus shifts: the extra placements in AfterSell or Zipify OneClickUpsell start to earn their higher subscription, and you should also read our guide to AI landing page builders for small businesses, because a better product page is usually the second-highest AOV lever after a working post-purchase offer.
Every post-purchase upsell app pitches the same core mechanic: a one-click offer that lands after the customer pays and doesn’t force them to re-enter payment details. What separates them at a small-store size is the real monthly cost.
Upsell.com’s Upsell Basic plan costs $4.99 per month for up to 49 orders monthly, Upsell Premium is $7.99 per month for up to 99 orders, and Upsell Premium Pro is $14.99 per month for up to 199 orders, with a 0.75% fee on extra revenue generated by the app.
That’s the cheapest working entry point in this category by a wide margin.
The app’s placement is the highest-ROI slot for a small store.
Upsell.com presents targeted bundle, upsell, and cross-sell offers throughout the entire customer journey, from pre-purchase upsale offers to post-purchase upsell, with product-page AI recommendations, related products, frequently bought together, and cart upsells. Checkout upsells are available for Shopify Plus stores, plus one-click upsell funnels for post-purchase.
The vendor has also widened its scope in the last year:
ReConvert rebranded to Upsell.com in April 2026, reflecting expanded scope beyond thank-you page reconversion, and added pre-purchase order bumps in August 2025, completing their full-funnel coverage. The product functionality carried over; the brand name shifted to match it.
The trade-offs are real. Billing scales with orders and adds a 0.75% commission on generated revenue, so heavy stores will graduate to a competitor. And app store reviewers have flagged a step-up in pricing once you’re out of the small-store tiers. One recent review notes there’s no pricing option under $20 after the trial. If your store is inside the 200-orders-a-month band, install the small-store tier, run a thank-you-page offer for 30 days, and re-evaluate before you cross the next volume threshold.
Runner-up: Zipify OneClickUpsell
Zipify OCU is the app to pick if you want pre-purchase, cart, post-purchase, and thank-you-page offers coordinated in one editor rather than stitched across two apps.
Every OCU plan, starting at $8/month, includes all 7 upsell placements: product page, pre-purchase, in-cart, in-checkout (Shopify Plus), post-purchase, Thank You page, and Shop App.
That’s the widest placement coverage per dollar in the category.
Its billing model is the other reason it’s a serious contender for a small store.
OneClickUpsell includes unlimited orders at every price tier and charges 1% of upsell revenue instead, so you don’t pay extra just because you have a high-volume store. This pricing model ensures that merchants only pay for the value the app provides.
OneClickUpsell comes with a 30-day free trial in the Shopify App Store; if you’re not delighted with the app for any reason, simply delete it before the 30-day free trial expires and you won’t be charged.
The reason we didn’t put OCU at rank one is only that its cheapest paid live-store tier is still higher than Upsell.com’s. For a founder-run store doing under 200 orders a month, the extra placement breadth is capability the store isn’t yet ready to use.
Also great: AfterSell
Once your store is doing more than about 500 orders a month, AfterSell (now part of Rokt) is worth the step-up.
Aftersell’s post-purchase upsell pricing is based on your total store orders each month, so your bill may increase or decrease based on your order volume; store orders refer to total Shopify orders each month, not orders generated by the app.
If you have 1,500 orders in the last 30 days, you will be billed $99.99; if you have 10,000 orders, $329.99; if you have 100,000 orders, $799.99. Aftersell’s checkout functionality is priced at $99 per month, and checkout editing functionality is exclusive to Shopify Plus.
The AI selection layer is a real feature rather than a marketing claim:
Aftersell uses Smart Funnel AI to show shoppers the best offer, and lets stores customize the Thank You page with cross-sells or add checkout widgets like upsells, reward bars, or testimonials for Shopify Plus.
The catch, again, is small-store math. Below about 500 monthly orders, you’re paying a $34.99 baseline for an entry plan whose placement coverage is close to what Upsell.com gives you for $4.99 to $14.99. AfterSell earns its price at scale. Below that, install it when you’re ready to move.
Budget pick: Honeycomb
Honeycomb is the only app in this shortlist with a paid feature set behind a genuine $0 tier.
Honeycomb offers a free plan with all the features; the only limit is total views, capped to 100 per month, and to get more views you need to upgrade to one of the premium plans. The starting Silver plan is $49.99 per month and offers 2,000 monthly funnel views.
Their pricing plans are Silver at $49.99/month, Gold at $99.99/month, and Platinum at $149.99/month.
The app itself is capable:
Honeycomb Upsell Funnels lets you feature upsell and cross-sell offers on your product page, cart page, post-purchase, and thank-you page, with an AI-powered recommendation engine that automates matching offers to products.
The reason it sits at rank four for a small store is the step from free to Silver. If your funnel needs more than 100 views a month, and any store spending on ads will, you jump from $0 to $49.99, which is more than three times Upsell.com’s Premium Pro price at 199 orders. Use Honeycomb’s free plan to test the mechanic without committing, then move to Upsell.com or OCU when it’s time to pay.
Where Rebuy fits (and where it doesn’t)
Rebuy is the name most Shopify blog posts put at the top of an upsell shortlist, and for mid-market DTC it deserves the placement. But it isn’t priced for a small store.
Rebuy’s Starter plan costs $99/month, the Scale plan is $249/month, the Pro plan is $499/month, and the Grow plan is $749/month.
The current package-based version is more flexible:
build-your-own packages start at $25 a month each with bundle savings up to 30%, and Platform One bundles every package from a $534/month base with a 10% discount if billed annually.
Even the cheapest single package is more per month than Upsell.com’s small-store tier for the same core mechanic. If you’re doing over 1,000 orders a month with a broad catalog and a real merchandising strategy, Rebuy earns its price. Below that, the money is better spent proving the mechanic on a cheaper app first.
How to choose
The decision tree is short. If you’re under 500 monthly orders, install Upsell.com’s paid live-store tier and run a thank-you-page one-click offer for a month. If you want pre-purchase, cart, and post-purchase in one editor from day one, use Zipify OneClickUpsell. If you’re past 500 monthly orders or on Shopify Plus and you need a real in-checkout upsell, move to AfterSell. If you want to test on a hard $0 plan first, install Honeycomb, hit its 100-view cap on a live product, then upgrade the app that earned its keep.
An upsell isn’t the only lever on AOV for a small store. If your customer list is deep enough, an AI SMS marketing platform can run the reorder and win-back offers that a post-purchase page can’t. If your reviews are thin, an AI review management tool usually lifts conversion rate more than another cart widget will lift AOV. Fix the biggest leak first, then come back for the next one.
